In an Emergency

In an Emergency or Out of Hours

If someone's life is in danger such as by taking an overdose of tablets or other self harm, go to the Accident and Emergency Department of your nearest hospital.

If necessary, ring 999 for an ambulance.

Otherwise, in a crisis, contact your GP day or night, unless your Mental Health Team has made other arrangements for you. If you are on the Care Plan Approach, your care plan should say who to contact in case of difficulty.

If you need to talk to somebody, Lifeline, Cambridge's Mental Health Helpline, on 0808 808 2121 is open every evening of the year from 7pm to 11pm.

Saneline is a national helpline that gives information and support out of hours. As of May 2008 it is available 6pm - 11pm every day. Call them on: 0845 767 8000 (charged at local rates)

NHS Direct has trained nurses available 24 hours per day to answer queries on all health problems. Phone them on 0845 4647.

The Samaritans are always open and you can ring on 08457 909090.
